WOMEN CELL

The Women’s Cell of Chandigarh Polytechnic College (CPC) was established in 2012 in accordance with the directions issued by UGC and MHRD, and Supreme Court ruling of 1997 on the issue of sexual harassment in the work place. Women’s Cell was formed to empower and uphold the dignity of Women at work. The University aims to provide and maintain a dignified, safe, congenial working and learning environment for women employees and students free from gender discrimination and sexual harassment. It further cultivates the atmosphere where men and women work together towards the growth and prosperity of the institution in a safe and healthy academic environment.
The Women Cell is headed by a senior female faculty member and its main functions are:

  • The look after all the activities and issues related to women at CPC.
  • To create an Anti Sexual Harassment Committee for dealing with cases of sexual harassment.
  • To organize activities/seminars/etc. for sensitizing faculty and students about gender issues.
  • To look into all the grievances of women students/employees of CPC.

OBJECTIVES OF THE WOMEN CELL

The women cell aims to empower women by:

  • Identifying strong leadership quality and change makers amongst women and facilitate in building their capacity.
  • Promoting a culture of respect and equality for the female gender in the society.
  • Providing opportunities and programs for female gender to be financially, mentally, and emotionally empowered so as to promote their growth as individuals in their own right.
  • Making them aware about the guidelines of Supreme Court and to ensure that sexual harassment is treated as an unacceptable social behavior within the institution and the society.
  • Becoming a resource center by involving NSS students to interact with rural and urban women who lack formal education and identify concerns, issues, and provide assistance to them in achieving their goals.
  • Continuously reviewing and monitoring safety and security measures for female employees and girl students.
  • Inculcating entrepreneurial attitude among young girls at the earliest so that they can be “job givers” rather than “job seekers.”

ACTION

The victim can lodge a complaint through email, by filling a form, or by a telephone call to any of the members. The complaint’s name and identity will be kept confidential.
Only victim / parents / heir can file a complaint.
If it has been proved that the offender has indulged in sexual harassment, appropriate punitive action will be taking against them, irrespective of their status in the University whether staff, faculty or student.
